By Veronica Thraen You’ve just landed your first project management gig and are getting ready to kick off a project – congratulations! As a new project manager, I remember being excited but a little nervous at the same time. Would the team respect me even though I am new to the profession? Would they accept my ideas, and would I be able to appropriately convey any concerns or red flags?
Making decisions is hard work. When you combine conflicting stakeholder opinions, complex data sets, and tight deadlines, it’s no surprise that 85% of us suffer from decision-making distress. Analysis paralysis restricts our ability to make effective decisions, rendering us stuck in the mud as overthinking and complexity take over. But we simply can’t afford to be stuck for long.
The short answer is yes, they can. First, what's the difference between a Scrum team, a Project team and a Product team? A Scrum team is a team using Scrum to deliver value. A Project team is a team formed to deliver a Project. A Project is a temporary endeavor with a scope, timeline and budget. A Product team is one or more Scrum teams that have been formed to support a product or service.
Let me tell you about the time I missed a key stakeholder during a project. She rang me on the day the project went live, unsurprisingly upset that I had not consulted her. The deliverable we’d created did affect her team, and no one had bothered to tell her. Oops. So I know firsthand that stakeholder registers can be really useful tools to ensure everyone is identified and bought into the project at the most appropriate times.
