A project manager approached me recently with a problem. She knew that some of the data that was being submitted in internal reports was — frankly — made up. It was made up with the best intentions from educated guesses and extrapolation. It’s probably fairer and less controversial to say that it was ‘estimated’ rather than created totally randomly from scratch.
Nowadays, planning for a project is as important as creating a project proposal. You can’t just dive into the project blindly and realize at a later stage that it wasn’t worth investing in. Thus, it is necessary to create a great project proposal for its success of it. The more prepared you are the better it is for the team and decision-makers to achieve the goals and objectives of the company.
What if you had to handle projects on the go, without a plan, organization, or any order? You would just brief your team, tell them what needs to be done, and they will be on board with everything you just proposed! This is how things work in an ideal business setting. However, projects aren't that simple, and they demand planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, which are four functions of management.
Project management standards such as the PMBOK® Guide, Sixth Edition state that contingency reserves, which are established to offset the cost or schedule impacts of realized identified risks, are considered part of the project budget and cost baseline. As the project manager is authorized to spend the budget as planned, it is assumed that they have the ability to draw upon contingency reserves directly as risks are realized.

The Complex Project Toolkit is really a book about paradigms in project management and how to encourage teams (and project managers) to stay curious and to embrace uncertainty. This is not a ‘how-to’ book with templates or checklists, but rather a scaled-out strategy view. It’s packed with examples from history, science, as well as some project anecdotes.
TL; DR: How to Sabotage A Product Owner — 53 Anti-Patterns from the Trenches to Avoid. One of my favorite exercises from my Professional Scrum Product Owner classes is how to best sabotage a Product Owner as a member of the middle management. The exercise rules are simple: You’re not allowed to use any form of illegal activity. So, outsourcing the task to a bunch of outlaws is out of the question.

How Businesses Can Smoothly Manage Work Amid The Scare of Omicron Image Source: ProofHub It’s been nearly two years since the global pandemic of Covid-19 unprecedentedly arrived on the scene and threw normal life out of gear. Amid the grave threat to human life, social distancing and remote work have become synonymous in the last couple of years. Yes, scientists have introduced vaccines, and millions of people have been diagnosed with them.
Imagine you’re a CIO, CTO, IT Leader, or Finance Manager. You prepare an annual operating plan outlining your budget and allocations every year. Once the dust settles and everything is agreed to, you are asked to do more with less. Everything after that is chaos. WHERE THE PLAN GOES WRONG. Projects that you targeted did not start when you planned. Unplanned events, outages, and work eat at the money you planned to invest in a new value.
Social media is a de facto standard for businesses these days. Brands can thrive or wither on the quality of their social media manager and some networks can be ruthless. Campaigns and tweets can stick in customers’ memories for a long time: who can forget the Colin the Caterpillar struggles? (#FreeCuthbert!) They even made it on to the primary school curriculum.
The Product Backlog is one of the three Scrum artifacts. It is the team’s to-do list that shows what to work on next. Each item on the list is called a Product Backlog item (PBI), and each PBI contains a description, sizing, and order. A well-refined Product Backlog is essential for high-performing Scrum Teams. Without it, teams will likely struggle to deliver a Done increment each Sprint.

Over the past decade, companies have embraced innovation with enthusiasm—Chief Innovation Officers have been hired, and in-house incubators, accelerators, and co-creation labs have been launched. CEOs have spoken with passion about “making everyone an innovator” and the need “to disrupt our own business.” But after years of experimentation, senior leaders are asking: Is this still just an experiment, or are we in it for the long haul?
In the market, when we talk about a complete product that comes in the display, it is an excellent culmination of many individual steps that have been completed by the members of the product development team members playing different roles. In order to make the team exceedingly productive while making sure that every single member of the team knows what they have to do, the project managers create to-do lists in correlation with the scrum team.

As we set out on the Agile journey, picking Kanban seemed like a no-brainer. It is visual, easy to use, and a perfect fit for the PM tool we have been developing. The agile industry has fallen short in providing agile practitioners with all the tools they need to navigate the complex transformations they face. In my opinion, the biggest gap in the toolbox is professional coaching. . The agile ‘industry’ was born in the 1990’s before the agile manifesto was written. Since then, the market potential of agile coaching was projected at $500 million by 2023 and has moved firmly into the territory of organization transformation.

Where in the Scrum framework do reflection and learning happen? You’re only partially right if your answer is the Sprint Retrospective. There are many ways to encourage learning throughout the Sprint in a way that makes it a natural part of your work together.

Scrums größte Stärke ist dessen Einfachheit, welche aber auch die Quelle vieler Mythen und Fehlinterpretationen ist. In the way of organizational success, there lies a noteworthy foe that is ever-present and makes sure that you and your goals are berated and questioned at every step of the project development process. Not to make it sound too comical, but the general idea is the same. This “foe” is the stakeholders’ approvals and reviews. Trust me, if you haven’t suffered from this, then you are one of a few that haven’t.

In 2021 I developed and launched an online workshop to interactively explore with the people participating The Value in the Scrum Values. Soon I found out that I had more in store than I could interact over with attendants in the half day that I had foreseen. So I limited the material to a first module and cover in it how “Values drive behavior”. The second module “Behavior reflects values” remains to be launched and will obviously build on module 1.
