With observation, one can easily tell when a task has been assigned to the wrong resource. A wrong resource on the task is equivalent to assigning a doctor to cook in a restaurant, using a hammer to mow a lawn, or planning a party in a library. There’s a better, easier and more appropriate way of achieving your goal. The right candidate for the job would have the qualifications, experience, and suitability to match the job requirements.
As a vendor of project management and collaboration software, we talk to a lot of project managers. And we’ve heard all too often that despite every obvious intention for a project to be successful, the reality is that sometimes things fall apart. My belief is that the more you are prepared to fail, the better suited you are to prevent it from occurring at all.
Whenever a topic of motivation at work pops up I always bring up Dan Pink’s point. In the context of knowledge work, in order to create an environment where people are motivated we need autonomy, mastery, and purpose. The story is nice and compelling. However, what we don’t realize instantly is how high Dan Pink sets the bar. Let me leave the purpose part aside for now.
H aving been ‘doing’ both Waterfall and Agile for quite some time now I feel fairly qualified to point out the idiosyncrasies in both approaches. None of these approaches is completely wrong, and equally, none of these approaches is completely right. It all depends on the circumstances, the organizational maturity, attitude, culture and inclination.

Project managers have their work cut out for them — they must manage all the various project stakeholders and keep the project on track by successfully juggling and directing their roles and responsibilities. It’s easy to get bogged down by office politics, looming deadlines, and last-minute project changes. As a project manager, focusing on professional development and cultivating important skill sets can be vital to work success.
Consider the Project Manager First of all we need to consider if a project manager actually has the necessary skills to manage projects. A lot of people get thrown into project management because they are available, with no thought about what skills they need to carry out the role. I get a lot of feedback on this point so I know it is still happening today.
I’ve come across a number of articles lately that have talked about the importance of a good morning routine (like this one ), so I have been trying to practice some of these techniques. One practice is to start the day with meditation, not checking any electronic devices. I'll admit, sometimes when I'm working from home I'll turn on the TV while making my morning coffee before heading up to the office, but I don't start responding to email first thing in the morning.

Over the past decade, companies have embraced innovation with enthusiasm—Chief Innovation Officers have been hired, and in-house incubators, accelerators, and co-creation labs have been launched. CEOs have spoken with passion about “making everyone an innovator” and the need “to disrupt our own business.” But after years of experimentation, senior leaders are asking: Is this still just an experiment, or are we in it for the long haul?

It’s the holy grail of online marketing: the campaign that goes viral. Massive numbers of views, a staggering amount of social shares, and the kind of brand awareness money simply can’t buy. But crafting a successful viral campaign is no easy feat; in fact, most experts say you can’t really plan it with a marketing strategy definition at all — it either happens, or it doesn’t, and luck is no small factor.
They’re sipping coffee in the break room. They’re pacing around the conference room. They might just be lurking in your office. They are ( cue Psycho music )… Managers from Hell! Since the dawn of man, teamwork and cooperation has been the preferred method of getting things done. From the pyramids of Giza to the Golden Gate Bridge, we rely heavily on teams of engineers and architects to create such majestic masterpieces.
