I used PowerBI on every one of the eight PMOs I ran at Microsoft, and it was always part of my reporting tool suite. Typically, project managers report weekly or monthly, sharing the current status, progress, risks, issues, outstanding decisions, budget situation, and anything else that speaks to project performance. Equally, if a project looks under budget, that could signify the team has delivered very little at all – or they are being exceptionally good at cost management. Putting Data in Context Time, money, and scope come together in a time-phased budget and a project schedule. The budget is phased according to when it will be spent.
Some learning I’ve done includes being a better presenter both in person and online, Disciplined Agile, PMO leadership, website development, Blockchain, and AI. For example, I learned PMO leadership because I was creating a PMO (and still actively study it today). So now, I enjoy webinars, YouTube, and reading.
Overall budget – Money required for all types of resources required to complete the project, which includes people, facilities, equipment, and materials. You can gather project information by discussing it with key stakeholders such as customer representatives, sponsors, Project Management Office (PMO) members, and the quality manager.
For example, only managers can approve budget change requests, or only project managers can assign resources to tasks.
